City of Rocks

It was a birthday celebration weekend for our friend, Willie, so a crew of friends headed south for camping, climbing, hiking, and biking in the City of Rocks to celebrate. Roughly 2 1/2 hrs south of Hailey, this National Reserve is known for it's great climbing. What a beautiful location! The granite rock outcroppings reminded me of Tahoe, the City of Rocks is definitely a climbers paradise. I was lucky to have friends with gear to share to partake on a climb myself. It has been years, and I really enjoyed a chance to climb again....A few brief rain showers cooled us from the strong sun. You can tell this place get's HOT in the full summer months. We found wildflowers everywhere along with green oasis of plants in creek beds. It was fun to see were the pioneers had once traveled through in the mid 1800's by writing their names in wagon grease on a large rock. We had a great time!
